1 Corinthians 13:5 seeketh not her own
Love seeketh not her own. This principle is best understood when we study Ephesians 5:28-29, when he wrote “So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth […]

Psalms 21:2 Thou hast given him his hearts desire, and hast not withholden the request of his lips.
You desire to be blessed of the Lord. You long for God to give you the desires of your heart. You yearn for God to hear your prayers and then answer them. In verse one of this Psalm, David tells us who this person is who receives from God the desires of their heart and the person whose request is answered by God. In verse one David tells us that it is the person who joys in the Lords strength. It is he who rejoices in Gods salvation.
If you desire God to give you those things that you desire, than you must first be willing to give HIM those things HE desires. God desires your heart. HE desires to be number one in your life. If you are relying upon your own strength, what joy does God have in giving to you the desires of your heart? If you cannot rejoice in the way that HE has provided, protected and directed you, why should HE bless you by giving you those things that you request of HIM?

James 4:2 yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
In this passage you see a very important element of prayer, asking. In Matthew 7:7 Jesus told you Ask, and it shall be given you. He went on to say in verse 8 For every one that asketh receiveth. Christ taught the importance of asking when HE promised you in Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
It is important to ask, but just as important in asking is making sure you are asking for the right thing. James went on to tell you in verse 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Thus it is not only important that you ask but that you ask for the right thing. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus analogized our relationship with God to that of a son asking his father for bread. Jesus explained that a father would not give his son a rock when he asked for bread. Jesus then said in Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Psalms 10:17 LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:
What is the desire of your heart? What is the key to receiving the desire of your heart? The key is humility. The Lord hears the voice of those who are humble before HIM. You know that God gives grace to the humble but HE resists the proud. You know that you are to delight yourself in the Lord and HE will give you the desires of your heart. However, you cannot delight yourself in the Lord because you desire something from HIM. Instead, you must delight yourself before God with a humble heart.

Matthew 15:27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters table.
A woman from Canaan came to Jesus requesting that HE heal her daughter who was possessed with a devil. Jesus ignored her. She continued to be persistent until Jesus disciples came to HIM and requested that HE send her away. Jesus told the woman that HE was sent to minister until Israelites. The woman did not leave but worshiped Jesus. Jesus then told the woman that It is not meet to take the childrens bread, and cast it to dogs. The woman replied that she was at least entitled to the crumbs. Jesus then acknowledged her great faith and healed her daughter.

Acts 28:23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
Paul was a prisoner in Rome. However, rather than being locked up with all the other prisoners, Paul was permitted to dwell by himself in his own house with his own private soldier. Because Paul had his own house, Paul was able to minister more freely then he would have been able to do had he been in prison.
Once Paul reached Rome, one of the first things he did was he called for the Jews. The Jews acknowledged that the Jews in Jerusalem had not sent any message to them regarding Paul. While the Jews had not heard anything about Paul, they had heard about those who preached Jesus and they acknowledged that everything they heard was not good. Nonetheless, they were willing to give Paul audience and as such, they set a day were many of the Jewish leaders came into Pauls house to hear Paul teach.

Acts 18:25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
The believers in Ephesus had requested that Paul stay in their community and continue to preach. However, because Paul felt led of the Lord to return to Jerusalem, Paul did not stay. While Paul was not the answer to prayer that the believers in Ephesus were looking for, God sent to the city Apollos, a Jew. Apollos was an eloquent man who was mighty in the scriptures. Apollos was able to expound the scriptures to the believers while Aquila and Priscilla were able to expound unto him the way of God more perfectly.
