Job 15:12 - HEART CARRY THEE AWAY

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Job 15:12 Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,

Have you ever noticed how easy it is for your heart to draw you astray? You may desire to do what is right in the eyes of God, but then all of a sudden, you start yearning for the things of the world. It does not matter what your personal vise is, it does not take very long before you find yourself yielding to something you were determined not to yield to.

The things of this world are very strong. You could be sitting down trying to fill your mind with the things of God and then in matters of seconds, your mind is off day dreaming of other things. It seems to be hard to concentrate your attention upon the things of God but very easy to concentrate your attention upon the things of this world.

Peter was determined that he was not going to deny Jesus Christ. With bold words he proclaimed that he would die before he denied his Lord Jesus Christ. Nonetheless, that very night, Peter became the biggest coward in the world denying that he had never even heard of Jesus Christ.

There is an important lesson that we can learn from the life of Peter. Before Peter was tempted to deny Jesus Christ, he was in the garden with Jesus and the other disciples. Jesus called Peter and two other disciples and told them to pray. On three occasions, Jesus asked Peter to pray but each time Jesus returned, he found Peter fast asleep. Jesus told Peter that he needed to stay awake to pray in order to be strengthened to resist temptation. Peter chose sleep instead of prayer and later he did not have the courage necessary to stand up to a young girl.

A couple months later, Jesus has ascended up into heaven and Peter and the disciples are found praying. God sends the Holy Spirit and the next thing we know, Peter is preaching a message that thousands of people are deciding to be saved.

The reason why we are so weak is because we do not spend enough time seeking God. We have not learned to make the desires of God our desires. We chose to delight in ourselves rather than delight in the things of God. Because of the choices we make, we do not have the strength to overcome the wicked one.

If you wanted to climb a mountain, there is certain physical training that you would go through in order to survive all the things that climbing could throw at you. If you chose not to practice, your chances of survival would be minimal. It does not matter how much you desire to climb the mountain, if you do not have the proper equipment, if you do not have the proper conditioning of your body, you will probably quit or be seriously injured very quickly.

The reason why your heart carries you away is because you do not take the time to wait on the Lord. You need to learn to hear HIS still small voice. Until you learn to patiently wait for God to speak to you, you will see just how quickly life can pass you by as you run around. Those who sin and fall short of the glory of God often do not desire to sin against God but they do sin because they failed to equip themselves to resist the devil.

You do not have to allow the things of this world get the best of you. Rather than wait for the things of this world to distract you from the things of God, you should set aside time for God and allow HIM to be first in your life. Take time to learn the desires of God so that when things get tough, you have an anchor that is safe and sure.
