Job 24:15 - WAITETH FOR THE TWILIGHT
Monday, March 1st, 2010
Job 24:15 The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face.
When David went into Bath-sheba, he did it at night when the men were away at war. David thought he could sin in secret but God revealed his adultery for a lesson unto us. When Samson chose to go into a harlot, he did so by night. The Philistines heard that Samson was in town and they tried to capture him but the strength that the Lord had given him allowed Samson to escape their trap. When Amnon raped Tamar, it was after he had already sent everyone out of his house.
Many times when we sin and fall short of the glory of God, we know that what we are doing is wrong. Because of our guilty conscience, we do our best to ensure that no one knows about our secret sins. Most of us do not flaunt our mistakes, but instead we sin when we believe that others are not looking and we think that we can enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.
When Achan sinned by taking that which belonged to the Lord, he buried his treasure in the ground. Achan did not put the treasure in a place where everyone could see. Achan knew what he was doing was wrong, but the temptation of possessing the loot of Jericho was too strong for Achan.
There are those who openly flaunt their immorality. However, those individuals do not fear God. They have committed so many sins that they have hardened their heart to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. The loss of a conscience is not a good thing.
What is your secret sin? What is the area of your life that is most likely to cause you to stumble? Think about it, when is the most likely time that you will commit that sin? Is it at a time when there are a lot of people around or is it when you are alone and you are feeling sorry for yourself?
When Joseph was faced with a temptation to commit adultery, he fled. That is the example that we should make with our life. Rather than sit back and allow ourselves to yield to sin, we need to be proactive and not allow ourselves to get in a position that we are vulnerable. We need to know what our weaknesses are and ask God to give us the strength to not yield to temptation.
When Jesus taught the disciples to pray, HE instructed them to pray that God would not lead them into temptation but deliver them from the evil one. When Jabez prayed his prayer that God answered, he prayed that God would deliver him from evil so that sin might not cause him to grieve him. It is a Biblical prayer to pray that God will keep you from evil. However, you must remember that God allows temptation into our life, but that HE will never allow us to face a temptation that we are not able to bear. When we refuse to rely upon the strength of Jesus Christ when we are faced with a temptation, we are failing to use the tools that God has given us to overcome the wicked one.
Just because you pray every day the Lord’s prayer or Jabez’ prayer, that does not mean that your life will be perfect. Instead, you will still face temptation and when you do, you need to patiently pray to God and ask God to give you the strength to resist the devil so that he will flee.
It is much easier to sin then it is to stay holy. Only Jesus Christ has lived a sinless life that was pleasing unto the Lord. While you will never live a perfect life, it does not mean that you cannot sin less. Every day you need to patiently pray for the strength of God to do HIS perfect will.
