Job 29:3 - HIS LIGHT

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Job 29:3 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

David tells us in Psalms 119:105 that “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” In this passage, Job is remembering days when things were dark but HE remembers how God guided him every step of the way. At this time, Job does not feel like God is directing his path as HE had in the past. Job is not wishing for days of darkness, he simply desires those days were God is with him directing his paths.

Jesus Christ had the closest relationship with God that anyone could ever have. However, there came a day while HE was on the cross that HE cried out to God asking God why HE had forsaken HIM. God knew exactly where Jesus Christ was. However, because Jesus had taken on the sins of the world, something happened regarding HIS relationship with God that caused a great separation.

If you talked with very many mature Christians, they would tell you that there are times where it is so clear to them that God is with them, and then there are times where it seems like God has abandoned them. This is what Job is experiencing at this time. Job was in the valley of the shadow of death and he felt like God had abandoned him. Job desired God to show him what he was supposed to do next.

Just because you have become a Christian, it does not mean that every day of your spiritual walk with HIM is going to be a mountain top experience. The prophet Elijah had just saw God answer his prayer by bringing fire down from heaven. The prophet Elijah had just seen God break a drought with a cloud the size of a man’s fist. However, Elijah was running for his life and he did not know what to do next.

Did God answer the prayers of Elijah immediately and show him what he was supposed to do next? No. God sent Elijah on a long journey with no food. For 40 days Elijah went without food. Had God forsaken Elijah, the answer is no. God was with Elijah, HE just wanted to get Elijah in the right mind set so that Elijah could refocus his attention on what God had for him next.

Daniel is a man of great faith, yet one day he prayed and he did not receive an immediate answer. Daniel had to wait 20 days while Michael fought against the enemies of the Lord who desired to stop the vision of God from reaching Daniel. Had God forsaken Daniel for these 20 days? No. Daniel had to learn to persevere in prayer while HE waited for God to answer HIS petition.

God does not always give us the direction we desire when we desire it. There will be times where you seem lost and do not know what God desires you to do next. Remember that God has promised to never leave you nor forsake you. Remember that God desires to use you in a mighty way. When things seem dark, that is the time for you to slow down and draw closer to God.

Be patient with God and understand that God will reveal to you HIS perfect will in HIS timing. You would not drive 100mph in a car in the middle of the night with no headlights on your car. So likewise, if you do not have direction from God, that is the time to slow down and start spending more time with HIM so that you can receive the direction that you need in order to live a life that is pleasing to your Maker.
