FAITH, IT IS JUST ONE OF GOD’S GREAT AND PRECIOUS PROMISES - 2 Peter 1:5

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

II Peter 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue;

Faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity are eight qualities that Peter calls the great and precious promises. These eight qualities are a gift from God to enable you to be partakers of the divine nature. However, these eight gifts are not passive in nature but require that you diligently apply them to your life.

For the last year, you have been studying the first of these eight precious promises, faith. It is your duty to God as HIS child to increase your faith to draw closer to HIM. However, faith is not the only precious promise that you are to obtain. All eight precious promises should be sought and obtained by you and applied to your life so that you might live a life pleasing unto God.

Tuesday, November 8th, 2005

II Peter 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ:

Faith is not something that you are automatically given. Faith is something that you must obtain. You must desire faith. You must value faith. Faith is a precious commodity that you must seek after.

A grandmother comes to her granddaughter and tells her that she has a gift for her. However, before the grandmother gave the gift, the grandmother determined that her granddaughter was mature enough to properly handle the gift. Grandmother was certain that her granddaughter would treasure the gift. Grandmother gave to her granddaughter the doll that she had when she grew up. This doll is very precious in the sight of the grandmother. When grandmother knew that her granddaughter would not only treasure the doll but would use it, grandmother had no problem giving to the one she loves something that would be used and treasured.
