WE ARE IN HIM THAT IS TRUE - 1 John 5:20
I John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
You are commanded to add to your faith virtue. In order to add virtue to your life, you must fill your mind with those things that are true. In this passage, we see that Jesus Christ is true. This means that if you desire to have virtue in your life, your mind must be centered on Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the bridegroom and we are a part of his glorious bride, the church. From a very young age, most girls start dreaming of their wedding. They start thinking about the bridegroom; they fill their mind with the happy thoughts of the time to come. When the man finally proposes, the bride to be is quick to show to others the ring that was given to her by her future husband. Her wedding day and her future husband are not far from her mind. She is constantly meditating upon both.
The same attitude that a young bride has towards her future husband should be the same attitude that we have towards Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ should not be far from our mind. We should be quick to show to others the examples of HIS love in our lives. We should fill our minds with what HE has done for us. HIS love for us is so great; it should not be hard to have HIM as the center of our attention.
We know that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Light. No one likes to hang around people who they cannot trust. If a good friend deceives you, you are naturally going to be hesitant when you are around that person so that they do not deceive you again. You never have to worry about Jesus Christ ever deceiving you. Jesus Christ is the truth, HE cannot lie; HE cannot deceive you.
Fill your mind with Jesus Christ. Every day you should take the time to sing forth HIS praises. Do not just thank HIM for the good things that HE has done, but also learn to thank HIM for who HE is. Thank HIM for being your Savior. Thank HIM for being the Rock. Thank HIM for being the Prince of Peace. Thank HIM for being your Healer, your Comforter, and your Deliverer. Yes, you can thank HIM for the things that HE has done, but you also need to take the time to recognize who HE is and praise HIM for that. A bride does not just focus her praise upon the things that her bridegroom has done for her, but she also praises him for who HE is.
After you have added virtue to your life, you are instructed to add knowledge. In this passage, we see that our knowledge comes from Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ gives us knowledge of those things that are most important to us, our spiritual walk. The closer our relationship is with HIM, the easier it will be for HIM to add knowledge to our virtue.
Is Jesus Christ the center of your mind? Are you filling your mind with those things that are pleasing to God? There is nothing more pleasing to God then HIS Only Begotten Son. Jesus Christ should be constantly in your thoughts. You should meditate upon HIS words. You should seek to follow HIS example. Every day you should praise HIM for who HE is and what HE has done for you. Let HIM be the center of your universe.
