GIVE NOT THY STRENGTH UNTO WOMEN - Proverbs 31:3
Proverbs 31:3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived, yet he allowed his relationship with God to be severely destroyed as a result of his many wives. Solomon started out his reign as king wholly dedicated to God. However, as he grew more confident in his own strength, he began to marry many foreign women. Solomon ended up turning his heart away from God in order to please his many wives.
Samson was the strongest man who ever lived, yet he allowed his relationship with God to be severely destroyed as a result of his desire to have intimate relations with Philistine women. Samson was a special child who was raised to be a great judge for Israel. However, Samson had one weakness which quickly hampered his ability to completely rid the nation of Israel from the Philistines. How could Samson ever completely destroy those who were related to his lovers?
It was the love of women that eventually destroyed the ministry of Samson. Delilah kept pestering Samson until he finally grew weak and told her the secret of his strength. Had Samson never allowed himself to yield to the temptation of strange women, his ministry would have been more complete and he would finished that which God had purposed for him to do. Samson had a life purpose but his giving of his strength unto women resulted in his ministry ending early.
The Bible has many examples of men who were not faithful and they yielded to sexual sins. Prior to David committing adultery with Bath-sheba, we read a lot about all the wonderful things that David did as a king. However, after David gave his strength unto Bath-sheba, we see a major shift in the reign of David. For the rest of his life, while David remained king, we see that he was faced with many difficult situations that was a result of some sin in his life.
Sin has a way of costing us more than we are willing to pay. While we can justify our sin in our own mind, we still are accountable to God for our actions. God will forgive you just as HE forgave David. However, you will suffer the consequences of your sin. Your ministry here on this earth can be greatly reduced if you cannot control your sexual desires.
Remember that greater is HE that is in you then HE that is of this world. If Samson, David, and Solomon were all capable of yielding to sexual sin, then you too are vulnerable. By the strength of God, you can overcome the temptations of this world and you can have a ministry that truly impacts this world.
God is going to hold you accountable for both your actions and your thoughts. It is not good enough that you never commit a sexual sin if your mind is a cesspool of sexual sins. Jesus taught us in the Sermon on the Mount that if a man lust after a woman in his heart, he is guilty of committing adultery. God holds you to a higher standard than the world holds you to. As long as you allow Satan to control your mind, you will diminish your ability to fully serve the Lord.
When you take the time to add knowledge of the ways of God to your life, you understand the standards that God holds you to. You understand what God desires you to do and as such, you are in a better position to live your life so that HE is glorified through you. The more time you spend adding knowledge of the ways of God, the purer your mind will be and the easier it will be for you to resist the temptations that this world throws your way. It is time that you be like Job or Joseph who refused to commit sexual sins.
