EVERY WORD OF GOD IS PURE - Proverbs 30:5

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Why was it that you mother always told you to eat your fruits and vegetables? It was because the fruits and vegetables were good for you and would promote your health. So likewise, every word of God is pure and thus it is desirable for you to partake of the word of God. The more time you spend adding to your knowledge of the ways of God, the stronger your trust in God will be.

If the words of God were not pure, you would not want to waste your time reading and meditating upon them. If you knew that the fruits and vegetables that were served at dinner were cooked in poison, you would be justified in abstaining from eating them. So likewise, the vein philosophies of man are cooked with a deadly spiritual poison. Spending time reading and meditating upon such philosophies will destroy your ability to trust in God.

We know that the nation of Israel had spent many years in the land of Egypt. When they left Egypt, while they had seen the Lord do many wonderful things, they were still filled with the poison of unbelief that inflicted them from being around the worldly Egyptians for most of their lives. It did not matter that they saw the 10 plagues inflicted upon the Egyptians or that they had seen God part the Red Sea, when it came time to enter into the Promise Land, the entire nation bulked with the exception of Joshua and Caleb.

While we do not know much about Joshua and Caleb before this time, we do know that when Moses went up into the Mountain in order to receive the Ten Commandments, it was Joshua who went with Moses and waited for him. Joshua had spent some time alone with God and this apparently helped prepare him for the time when he was going to have to trust in God even though everyone around him was going a different direction.

God desires to protect you, but HE needs you to first put your trust in HIM. In the same way that eating your fruits and vegetables will help boost your immune system which in turn helps protect your body; so likewise, the time you spend filling your mind with the pure words of God will in turn help boost your trust in God who desires to protect you.

When Peter walked on water, we see that Jesus was right there protecting him. Peter was able to do the impossible because he understood who Jesus was. Peter had been spending time around the pure words of God and this boosted his faith and caused him to desire to do the impossible. Peter never would have needed the protection of Jesus as long as he had kept his focus on Jesus and not on the storm around him. Yet nonetheless, Jesus still protected Peter even though Peter did not fully trust in Jesus.

Do you believe that every word of God is pure? Do you have a healthy appetite for the things of God? It is easy to say that you believe that every word of God is pure, but it is another thing altogether to live your life accordingly. You need to understand that your ability to trust God is proportional to the time you spend filling your spiritual stomach with the pure words of God.

You desire to do great things for God. You have asked God to bless you and to expand your borders. However, have you done your part to make sure that you can trust HIM? Why should God bless you if you have not put your full trust in HIM? Why should God bless you if you are spending all your time filling your mind with the vain philosophies of man? If you desire the protection of God, then you must start doing those things to increase your trust in HIM.
