DO HIM GOOD - Proverbs 31:12
Proverbs 31:12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
This passage is discussing the benefits to a husband who takes the time to find a virtuous wife. One of the benefits is that a virtuous woman will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
You are the bride of Christ; are you a virtuous bride? Do you seek to do good and not evil all the days of your life? Is God pleased by your actions? Are you striving to live by the law of God?
A virtuous woman will take the time to understand the desires of her husband. She will then demonstrate her love for her husband by doing those things that please her husband. She desires to help her husband succeed because she understands that the two are one. If she does evil to her husband, then she is not only hurting her husband, but she is also hurting herself.
God has given us the Bible to reveal to us how we are to live our life. As we spend time adding knowledge of the ways of God to our life, we understand more fully what we are to do every step of the way. While we understand that Christ died on the cross that we might be free, we should not take that gift for granted. When we became a Christian, we took on the name of Christ and we became one with Christ. When we sin and do that which is right in our own eyes, not only do we harm our own reputation, but much more costly, we tarnish the name of Christ and cause the world to think less highly of Christ then they ought.
We are accountable to God for our own actions. When the world looks at us, they should see that we are one with Jesus Christ. They should see that we are striving to obey the perfect will of God. They should see that we do not want to harm our relationship with God by doing anything that displeases HIM.
You do not want to be married to a person who does not care about your feelings? If your spouse only cared about themselves and what they get out of the relationship, it would not be too long before you are discouraged. A marriage built upon one or both parties being selfish will be very weak. In order for a marriage to be strong, both the husband and the wife must understand that they are to be selfless and that they are to seek to meet the needs of the other.
So likewise, if you are going to be a strong Christian, you must seek to live your life in accordance with the principles of God. If you are proclaiming to be a Christian because of the fire insurance policy that you get out of it, then you do not have a very strong relationship and you should not be surprised when you do not have the strength to overcome the temptations that you face.
Why is it so hard for you to spend time with the perfect bridegroom? It all boils down to our selfish desire to do what we want when we want. Often a newborn Christian will be eager to spend a lot of time in reading the Bible, but as they grow older in the faith, they grow complacent and lose their first love.
We must not lose our first love. We must strive to continue to draw closer to God each and every day. As we spend time adding knowledge of the ways of God, we enable ourselves to hear the still small voice of God. A close relationship with God will not only give us the strength to do the right thing but also enable us to hear the still small voice of the ultimate lover.
