Job 16:2 - MISERABLE COMFORTERS

Job 16:2 I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.

Have you ever been going through a major trial and had someone come up to you and say all the wrong things? That is what Job is happening to Job in this passage. Job is going through a major trial, one which most of us would dread experiencing. Three of Job’s friends came to comfort him during his trial and everything they are saying is not helping Job feel any better about the situation.

The lesson we need to learn from this passage is that we need to be very careful with the words that we say. Words are powerful and it would not take very much to tear down a spirit of a person who has just had a very difficult day. When we are around others, we need to discern what is going on in their life and use our words to draw them closer to the Lord rather than use our words to discourage them more than they already are.

You do not have to look very far to find someone who is having a very bad day. Are you going to comfort them or are you going help drag them down further? If you are going to encourage them to do that which is right in the eyes of God, you will need to have a close relationship with God yourself so that you can hear HIS still small voice to know which words you need to share with those around you.

It is easy to be filled with your flesh and say some kind of comment that hurts the person you are speaking to. It is hard to be filled with the spirit and say something that is edifying and encourages those around you to draw closer to God. While it may be hard, it is a choice that you must make. A couple that is in love has no problem saying sweat loving words to each other. It comes natural because that is their mindset. However, a couple that has been fighting find it very easy to keep piling on blame to the other spouse.

Do you desire to tear down those around you or do you desire to encourage others to do that which is right in the eyes of God? Most of us would have no problem answering that question, but do our actions really portray a life that is pleasing to God? It often takes great self-control to only let those words come out of your mouth that are in accordance with what God desires you to say.

When Jesus was about to die, HE went to the garden to pray and talk with God. HE asked three of his disciples to watch and pray with HIM. However, HIS disciples really did not understand the trial that Jesus was going through and as such, they chose to sleep rather than watch and pray for an hour.

When Daniel was told that he was going to die because the king had a dream and no one could tell the king the interpretation of the dream, he called together his friends and they together sought the Lord. They could have spent the night bemoaning that it was their last day on earth, instead, they chose to comfort one another in the Lord and they watched God provide a miracle.

If you desire to be a friend to someone in need, you are going to first need to be patient with them and understand the problems that they are facing. You will need to listen to God and ask HIM to show you the words that HE wants you to share with your friend. Do not add to your friends problems, instead, assist them to make the right decisions to focus upon God during the midst of the storms in their life.
