BY FAITH YOU MUST OPEN YOUR MOUTH - Hebrews 11:20
Friday, September 30th, 2005Hebrews 11:20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
Isaac laid his hands upon Jacob thinking it was Esau and he blessed Jacob. When Esau came into the tent to receive his blessing, Isaac answered that Jacob had received the blessing and that Jacob would indeed be blessed. Isaac understood when he laid his hands upon his sons and blessed them that the words that he spoke were directly from the Lord and that the Lord would do according to the blessing that was pronounced.
Throughout scripture one will find stories of prophets boldly predicting what was going to happen next. These statements were not made on a whim. These prophets understood that one false prophecy and they would be deemed a false prophet and would be worthy of death. It was a serious matter to prophecy a blessing or a curse upon an individual and as such, the speaker always had to be sure of their words before they spoke them.
It might be easier to keep ones mouth shut and not risk saying something that might not come to pass. However, God did not put us here on this earth to live in our own self-centered world. We were put on this earth to bring glory to God and to draw the world’s attention to HIM. This means that we cannot stay in our own cocoon. Instead we must be willing to step out in faith and to say those things that God has laid on our heart.
How do you expect the world and other believers to live by faith if there are not examples of those who say what the Lord is going to do before HE does it? When someone is bold enough to say what the Lord has said before it happens and it happens, the Lord is glorified. Not only is the Lord glorified, it causes those who heard the word of the Lord to desire a closer relationship with the Lord. People always desire to know what is going to happen next. If they see that the Lord is able to show HIS’ servants what is next in their lives, when this occurs, it causes them to desire a closer relationship with HIM.
Isaac by faith blessed his children. Not only did he believe what he said would come to pass but his sons also believed that the blessing would be fulfilled. His children probably understood that Isaac had a close relationship with God and that the Lord would hear his words and bring them to past. Isaac was a man who had a close relationship with God.
If you desire to be used of God and to draw others attention unto the Lord, then you must be willing to spend time with the Lord to hear HIS still small voice. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. You cannot expect to hear the voice of the Lord if you do not spend time reading and meditating upon Gods word. However, just because you hear the word of God, this does not mean that you can keep it to yourself. What glory does God receive if you keep the things HE has told you a secret. Even if you share your trials with others after they are over, it is not nearly as powerful as it would have been had you shared the trial before you saw the Lord bring you through it. It takes faith to step out and share what you believe the Lord is laying on your heart. Nonetheless, if you step out in faith, the Lord is glorified through you when your faith is fulfilled.
By faith Isaac spoke blessings unto his children. By faith the blessings were fulfilled. By faith you will draw not only the church but also the world’s attention to the glory of God. By faith you must step out of the boat and do what the Lord has put on your heart.
